Drone Program Facilitator

Gogebic Community College is seeking a candidate who can assist the College to develop, facilitate and teach an Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) preparation class.  This position will also facilitate future programming and opportunities surrounding drone technology. Gogebic Community College is looking for someone with a background in both manned and unmanned aircraft operations, as well as experience and/or knowledge related to a specific UAS operational area such as aerial mapping/modeling, inspections, public safety, and other uses for the technology. The position will be responsible initially for developing a training program for students interested in taking the FAA Unmanned Aircraft general exam, which covers UAS regulations, the National Airspace System, weather, loading, performance, and operations.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Candidates must possess an FAA issued pilot’s license of any kind or an FAA Part 107 UAS license with experience flying commercially.
  • Candidates should be technologically savvy with knowledge of computer information systems and applications.
  • The ideal candidate will have the ability to work with the College to develop a drone-technology program that meets current and future needs, attending training sessions and conferences if necessary.
  • The preferred candidate will have experience with UAS flying, as well as teaching experience.

The position will start as a salary arrangement as the position works on program and operations development. Once the program is established, the position will develop into an adjunct teaching arrangement with future work-force development opportunities and drone-technology advancements that may expand the scope of the position.

Transfer Coordinator/Assistant Registrar

The Transfer Coordinator/Assistant Registrar is responsible for coordinating the transfer process for students transferring into and out of Gogebic Community College. This position performs transfer course equivalencies, reviews program guides, and is the college’s key contact for transfer and articulation agreements. Also, this position serves as a Student Services mentor/advisor, the Veteran’s Certifying Official, and maintains the computerized Advising Module. The Transfer Coordinator/Assistant Registrar reports to the Dean of Students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:     

  • Review program guides for colleges and universities that have transfer agreements with Gogebic Community College.
  • Coordinate and implement formal articulation agreements with intermediate school districts, colleges, and universities.
  • Work with transfer offices at colleges and universities on course equivalencies.
  • Advise students who are transferring to colleges and universities.
  • Act as a Student Services mentor, which includes academic advising.
  • Serve on the Curriculum Committee.
  • Act as the contact person at Gogebic for students who have transferred and are encountering difficulties with transferring.
  • Collect and disseminate transfer information to academic advisors.
  • Evaluate incoming transcripts, as well as requests for prior work experience learning.
  • Manage the Michigan Transfer Agreement process.
  • Collaborate with Gogebic faculty members who are developing new courses to ensure transferability to colleges and universities.
  • Perform public presentations at high schools and various recruiting events such as college and career fairs.
  • Maintain transfer information on the college website.
  • Act as the Veteran’s Certifying Official.
  • Assist with the degree audit function.
  • Maintain the Jenzabar advising module. 

Abilities:

  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing, experience with presentations.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with various constituencies.
  • Excellent computer skills; this position requires a high degree of proficiency with Jenzabar; will train qualified applicant on this specific software.
  • Work independently with an excellent level of accuracy and detail.
  • Multi-task many functions.
  • Use good, independent judgment in handling sensitive and difficult situations.

  • Participate in campus activities related to student success and retention.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Experience in college student services, performing related tasks in a college   setting preferred.

Education and Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. This position does require some evening hours.

Women’s Softball Coach

Gogebic Community College (Ironwood, MI)

Gogebic Community College is an NJCAA Division II institution. The position of Head Women’s softball Coach will be responsible for the direction, supervision and coaching of the women’s softball team. The Coach leads all aspects of academic success, coaching, strength and conditioning, recruiting, planning of practices, organization of team meetings and film study, and scheduling and travel management. The college competes with other two-year colleges in Northern Wisconsin and Minnesota, and with various regional four-year colleges and universities. The successful candidate will have the ability to foster personal growth, development, and academic and athletic achievement of players.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Develop, structure and implement a regionally and nationally competitive intercollegiate women’s softball program, striving for team athletic and academic excellence.
  2. Recruitment and retention of approximately 15-20 student-athletes annually.
  3. Collaborate with the College Athletic Director, Director of Student Outreach and Engagement and respective Faculty to monitor academic progress of student athletes to ensure NJCAA eligibility requirements and academic standards.
  4. Provide leadership that promotes integrity.
  5. Build and secure a schedule of competition with appropriate NJCAA, NCAA, NAIA colleges and universities.
  6. Submit travel plans, budget requests for recruitment and athletic competition activities to the Athletic Director.
  7. Report game statistics to the appropriate athletic and news websites for the NJCAA.
  8. Oversee and manage team budget and operate teams within budget limits.
  9. Develop and promote camp/clinic programs for area/regional youth skill enhancement.
  10. Adhere to all NJCAA Division II rules and regulations governing collegiate athletics and women’s softball.
  11. Support and promote our institutional identity and mission.
  12. Perform additional administrative responsibilities as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  1. Associate’s degree required, Bachelor's degree preferred.
  2. Two to three years high school and or college coaching experience preferred.
  3. Collegiate playing and coaching preferred.
  4. Demonstrated success recruiting student-athlete prospects.
  5. Knowledge of, and experience working within NJCAA rules and regulations.
  6. Strong interpersonal, management and communication skills.
  7. Strong work ethic, integrity and a positive attitude.
  8. Adaptable to a dynamic environment characteristic of an institution experiencing enrollment growth and program development.
  9. Valid driver's license required.
