Men’s Baseball Coach

Gogebic Community College (Ironwood, MI)

Gogebic Community College is an NJCAA Division II institution. The position of Head Men’s baseball Coach will be responsible for the direction, supervision and coaching of the men’s baseball team. The Coach leads all aspects of academic success, coaching, strength and conditioning, recruiting, planning of practices, organization of team meetings and film study, and scheduling and travel management. The college competes with other two-year colleges in Northern Wisconsin and Minnesota, and with various regional four-year colleges and universities. The successful candidate will have the ability to foster personal growth, development, and academic and athletic achievement of players.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES  

  1. Develop, structure and implement a regionally and nationally competitive intercollegiate men’s baseball program, striving for team athletic and academic excellence.
  2. Recruitment and retention of approximately 15-20 student-athletes annually.
  3. Collaborate with the College Athletic Director, Director of Student Outreach and Engagement and respective Faculty to monitor academic progress of student athletes to ensure NJCAA eligibility requirements and academic standards.
  4. Provide leadership that promotes integrity.
  5. Build and secure a schedule of competition with appropriate NJCAA, NCAA, NAIA colleges and universities.
  6. Submit travel plans, budget requests for recruitment and athletic competition activities to the Athletic Director.
  7. Report game statistics to the appropriate athletic and news websites for the NJCAA.
  8. Oversee and manage team budget and operate teams within budget limits.
  9. Develop and promote camp/clinic programs for area/regional youth skill enhancement.
  10. Adhere to all NJCAA Division II rules and regulations governing collegiate athletics and men’s baseball.
  11. Support and promote our institutional identity and mission.
  12. Perform additional administrative responsibilities as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  1. Bachelor's degree required.
  2. Two to three years high school and or college coaching experience preferred.
  3. Collegiate playing and coaching preferred.
  4. Demonstrated success recruiting student-athlete prospects.
  5. Knowledge of, and experience working within NJCAA rules and regulations.
  6. Strong interpersonal, management and communication skills.
  7. Strong work ethic, integrity and a positive attitude.
  8. Adaptable to a dynamic environment characteristic of an institution experiencing enrollment growth and program development.
  9. Valid driver's license required.

ADDITIONAL POSITION NOTES Salary Information: Commensurate with experience. This position is compensated with a stipend. The Head Coach is viewed as a mentor and advocate of equity and diversity within the athletic department. Female and minority candidates are encouraged to apply.

Women’s Softball Coach

Supervisor Porcupine Mountain Operations

Reports to: Director of Ski Area Management

Summary: This is a working supervisor position who when necessary performs many of the duties of those it supervises at the ski area. In addition to supervising day to day operations at the ski area, this position also teaches in the Ski Area Management program with courses assigned based upon skills, summer duties focus on maintenance and construction and preparation for the winter season.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive. Perform preventative maintenance ensuring all equipment and plant is maintained and operational.

Serves as a teaching assistant and part time faculty in the SAM program.

Maintains up-to-date records of all lifts, grooming equipment, rentals, injuries and daily cash ledgers.

Reviews applications, interviews, hires, trains and supervises all Porcupine Mountain operational personnel.

Prepares and submits annual maintenance and improvement plan for the ski area.

Aids in the preparation of the Porkies and SAM budget.

Maintains daily record on ticket and other income.

Conduct assigned promotional activities including ski reports, and other special events.

Ability to repair and operate a variety of equipment including chair lifts, tows, snow groomers, bull dozers etc.

Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge of:

Principles and practices of ski area operations

Gas and diesel engine maintenance

PCs and related software

Budgeting, forecasting and record keeping

Electrical AC/DC to include high and low voltage, drives and PLC technology

Hydraulics and hydrostatic operations and drives

Grooming/heavy equipment operations and maintenance

Snowmaking principles and operations

Principles of supervision

Welding and fabrication

First aid and CPR

Rental and retail practices

 

Ability to:

Ski/snowboard at the instructor level

Teach Ski Area Management Courses

Provide technical and operational leadership in ski area operations

Supervise employees

Operate and maintain a variety of ski area equipment

Communicate effectively verbally and in writing

Education and/or Experience any combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skill and abilities. A typical way to obtain these would be:

Bachelors in Business with a minor in Ski Area Management

Associates in Ski Area Management with five years experience in operating a ski area.

Valid Driver’s license required and PSIA certification and First Aid and CPR certificates preferred
